January 2017

During the summer of 2016, Allenton Big Local was pleased and proud to be asked by Local Trust to take part in the making of a film about Big Local.

Local Trust wanted to capture the power of Big Local and celebrate some of the great work taking place in the 150 Big Local areas across England. Working with film production company Panda Media, Local Trust visited Allenton and South Bermondsey to film residents and partnership group members in a bid to tell some of the amazing Big Local stories that have unfolded so far.

Dimmingsdale River 2016In 2016, Allenton Big Local again awarded Community Chest funding to Merrill PTFA to support a residential weekend for 20 children from Allenton. The trip was organised by Merrill PTFA to Dimmingsdale Youth Hostel in the Staffordshire Moorland.

Being out in the countryside and learning about the environment was a new experience for many of the children on the trip. They hiked, explored caves and took part in team games, challenges and activities.

AGM3On 10 January, Allenton Big Local held a community event and AGM at St Martin’s Community Centre on Flint Street.

The event was supported by delivery partners and local groups who have received funding or support from Allenton Big Local. The meeting was well attended by residents, local organisations and other interested parties who took the opportunity to network and find out about Big Local funding in Allenton.
