youthclubworkshopAs well as delivering regular weekly youth club sessions at St Martin’s Community Centre, the Enthusiasm Trust has recently been delivering pop-up outreach work within the Allenton Big Local Area.

This work is supported by Allenton Big Local and has been focused on the main shopping area, in Boulton Park, on the MUGA at the end of Wilkins Drive and along the canal path. Enthusiasm’s presence in these locations has been aimed at engaging young people, giving them access to youth work support, and promoting the youth activities on offer locally. Enthusiasm works with local organisations, including the Police, Derby Homes and Derby City Council, to tackle and target anti social behaviour and provide support for local young people.

SpaghettiFamilies in Allenton are continuing to benefit from cookery courses aimed at providing practical advice on healthy eating, basic cooking skills and budgeting information.

The courses are funded by Allenton Big Local and delivered by Nacro Osmaston, working in partnership with the local children’s centre. The 8-week course includes both theoretical lessons and practical hands-on sessions where participants make dishes to take home to their family, using ingredients provided as part of the course.

As your Big Local Rep, every three months I share my thoughts on local area progress with you as residents and with the central team managing the national programme. Your comments and thoughts are always welcome.

Looking back

Running things

The partnership meets each month and residents are welcome. With a second plan approved and in place and running smoothly, the partnership has focused on community connection and one of its major partner projects these last three months.

In January Allenton Big Local held a resident and partners event and Annual General Meeting. Two new members were welcomed and a summary of activity and spend shared with those present. Progress was applauded and future plans warmly greeted.

As part of our Life Skills priority, Allenton Big Local funds family support for parents living in the Allenton Big Local area. The support programmes are delivered by Nacro and aim to enhance and improve family relationships, encourage parents and children to spend time together and take part in activities that positively influence their relationships and have a long term benefit.
