Allenton Big Local held its annual community event and AGM at St Martin’s Community Centre on 9 January. The event was well attended by local residents, delivery partners, St Martin’s Church members, and representatives from local groups and organisations.
Allenton Big Local Chair, Edith Lang, presented an overview of the Big Local funded activities that had been running in Allenton in 2017. Attendees to the event received a copy of the latest Allenton Big Local newsletter and an update on how much of the £1m Big Lottery money has been spent so far and the partnership members for 2018.
Santa visited Allenton Market again on 16 December 2017 and spoke to 448 children at the annual Allenton Big Local Christmas event, which was organised by Nacro and volunteers from Allenton Community Support parents’ group.
The event was also supported by Derby Homes and members of the Allenton Big Local partnership group.

On 24 October Allenton Big Local welcomed a group of Big Local people to an event that focussed on how to make young people a part of Big Local. Throughout the day, delegates discussed and shared their ideas and experiences of getting young people involved

The meeting was well attended by residents, local organisations and other interested parties who took the opportunity to network and find out about Big Local funding in Allenton.
Allenton Big Local has funded another successful Christmas event, which was held at Allenton Market on 17 December. Santa and his reindeers were in attendance once again and proved as popular as ever with the children who visited him.

At a recent review of the Partnership, the Allenton Big Local Partnership Group proposed changes to the wording of the Approach and Governance Structure (the changes are shown in red on this document). Acceptance of these amendments will be voted on during the Allenton Big Local
On 7 December members of the Allenton Big Local Partnership Group attended a Locally Trusted Organisations and Big Local Partnerships learning and networking event at The Edge in Sheffield.
The day provided a useful opportunity to meet and learn from residents and workers in other Big Local areas. The programme for the day included an update from Local Trust, followed by a series of workshops and information sharing sessions on topics such as financial management, collaboration, organising and facilitating meetings, working with volunteers and managing workers.

Allenton Big Local is looking for more residents to join its Partnership Group.
You don’t need to have any qualifications or special skills. All we ask is that are interested in improving your local area and live in the Allenton Big Local area.
As a group member, you would make decisions on how Big Local money is spent in Allenton and would help to monitor the progress of activities to make sure they are being delivered successfully.
Can you believe that Christmas is little more than two months away? Those of you who came to our Christmas event at Allenton Market in 2015, will be pleased to learn that Santa and his reindeers will be back in Allenton Market again this year on Saturday 17 December, 10am-2pm.
On 10 January 2017 at 6pm Allenton Big Local will be holding a community event, which will include the Allenton Big Local Annual General Meeting.
Allenton Big Local was one of several local organisations and groups to support the OSCAR Tracks BMX Event that took place at the Cotton Lane BMX Track on 31 August. The event was a chance for young people to bring their bikes along to use the tracks and take part in some of the other activities available on the day, which included inflatables and refreshments which were funded by Allenton Big Local.
A strawberry tea was held for Allenton residents on 20 July at Handyside Court. The event was funded by Allenton Big Local, organised by The Alvaston Residents Association (TARA) and supported by Local Area Co-ordinators. The warm weather certainly lived up to the strawberry summer themed event, and the people that attended enjoyed chatting and sampling the food provided.
Allenton Big Local is one of several local organisations and groups supporting the OSCAR Tracks BMX Event that will take place at the Cotton Lane BMX Track on Wednesday 31 August between 12pm and 3pm.
There will be free activities available, including inflatables, stands and refreshments.
The monthly coffee morning for older residents in the Allenton area was held at Handyside Court in April, and this time it had a special celebratory theme to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Allenton Big Local held a Christmas event at Allenton Market on 19 December 2015 which proved very popular with local residents, especially the children. We asked 50 people what they thought of the event – 72% said it was Fantastic, 28% said it was Good, and absolutely no-one rated as OK, Poor or Rubbish. Local families flocked to Allenton Market on Saturday 19 December to visit Santa’s grotto and see some real live reindeer. The free family event was funded by Allenton Big Local and organised by local parents and residents.
A group of young people from Allenton delivered a great performance on the main shopping street in Allenton on Saturday 28 November. The young people had all been attending weekly street dance workshops run by Trinity Warriors Dance Acdemy, where they learned the dance steps and routine they delivered on Saturday.
The activity was funded by Allenton Big Local and managed by The Enthusiasm Trust.
