AGMAllenton Big Local held its annual community event and AGM at St Martin’s Community Centre on 9 January. The event was well attended by local residents, delivery partners, St Martin’s Church members, and representatives from local groups and organisations.

Allenton Big Local Chair, Edith Lang, presented an overview of the Big Local funded activities that had been running in Allenton in 2017. Attendees to the event received a copy of the latest Allenton Big Local newsletter and an update on how much of the £1m Big Lottery money has been spent so far and the partnership members for 2018.

SmallSanta (2)Santa visited Allenton Market again on 16 December 2017 and spoke to 448 children at the annual Allenton Big Local Christmas event, which was organised by Nacro and volunteers from Allenton Community Support parents’ group.

The event was also supported by Derby Homes and members of the Allenton Big Local partnership group.

AGM3On 10 January, Allenton Big Local held a community event and AGM at St Martin’s Community Centre on Flint Street.

The event was supported by delivery partners and local groups who have received funding or support from Allenton Big Local. The meeting was well attended by residents, local organisations and other interested parties who took the opportunity to network and find out about Big Local funding in Allenton.

1527642On 7 December members of the Allenton Big Local Partnership Group attended a Locally Trusted Organisations and Big Local Partnerships learning and networking event at The Edge in Sheffield.

The day provided a useful opportunity to meet and learn from residents and workers in other Big Local areas. The programme for the day included an update from Local Trust, followed by a series of workshops and information sharing sessions on topics such as financial management, collaboration, organising and facilitating meetings, working with volunteers and managing workers.

You don’t need to have any qualifications or special skills. All we ask is that are interested in improving your local area and live in the Allenton Big Local area.

As a group member, you would make decisions on how Big Local money is spent in Allenton and would help to monitor the progress of activities to make sure they are being delivered successfully.

BikesAllenton Big Local was one of several local organisations and groups to support the OSCAR Tracks BMX Event that took place at the Cotton Lane BMX Track on 31 August. The event was a chance for young people to bring their bikes along to use the tracks and take part in some of the other activities available on the day, which included inflatables and refreshments which were funded by Allenton Big Local.

EnjoyA strawberry tea was held for Allenton residents on 20 July at Handyside Court. The event was funded by Allenton Big Local, organised by The Alvaston Residents Association (TARA) and supported by Local Area Co-ordinators. The warm weather certainly lived up to the strawberry summer themed event, and the people that attended enjoyed chatting and sampling the food provided.

Allenton Big Local held a Christmas event at Allenton Market on 19 December 2015 which proved very popular with local residents, especially the children. We asked 50 people what they thought of the event – 72% said it was Fantastic, 28% said it was Good, and absolutely no-one rated as OK, Poor or Rubbish. A group of young people from Allenton delivered a great performance on the main shopping street in Allenton on Saturday 28 November. The young people had all been attending weekly street dance workshops run by Trinity Warriors Dance Acdemy, where they learned the dance steps and routine they delivered on Saturday.

The activity was funded by Allenton Big Local and managed by The Enthusiasm Trust.
