Great to see Santa back at Allenton Market
Santa visited Allenton Market again on 16 December 2017 and spoke to 448 children at the annual Allenton Big Local Christmas event, which was organised by Nacro and volunteers from Allenton Community Support parents’ group.
The event was also supported by Derby Homes and members of the Allenton Big Local partnership group.
This was the third year for the event and there were many familiar and excited faces in the queue waiting to speak to Santa in his grotto. Many of the parents told us that visiting Santa at Allenton Market has now become a tradition for their family, and they said how much they enjoyed coming along to the event.
“Santa is amazing. This is such a great event. The kids love it!”
Families waited patiently in line to enter the grotto and were kept entertained by Christmas songs and carols sung by In Harmony. It was a cold day, so the vouchers for free hot drinks from Annie’s Fast Food kiosk at the market were welcomed by the people in the queue. Cookies made by the Hot Bread Shop in Allenton were also distributed to everyone visiting the event. The children who visited Santa received a small present to take away and a pack of magic reindeer food for sprinkling outdoors on Christmas eve.
Our thanks to everyone who was involved in the planning and delivery of this fantastic event, which really brings together and strengthens the community. It was nice to hear from local people how much their children look forward to attending the event each year and a pleasure to see the happy faces of the children as they emerged from the grotto.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone in Allenton a very happy Christmas and all the very best for 2018.
