Our community event and AGM
On 10 January, Allenton Big Local held a community event and AGM at St Martin’s Community Centre on Flint Street.
The event was supported by delivery partners and local groups who have received funding or support from Allenton Big Local. The meeting was well attended by residents, local organisations and other interested parties who took the opportunity to network and find out about Big Local funding in Allenton.
A presentation was made by Edith Lang, who is a local resident and Vice Chair of Allenton Big Local. Edith explained how funding decisions had been made and provided an overview of some of the activities within the community that are being funded by Allenton Big Local. The Reverend Joseph Tembo also delivered an update on the proposed development of the Community Centre at St Martin’s, which will be achieved in partnership with Derby Homes and supported by funding from Allenton Big Local. The development will see the refurbishment of the Community Centre to include a café, meeting rooms, new toilets and energy efficient heating.
The Chair of Allenton Big Local, Joe Russo, ended the meeting by asking for a vote from residents on the membership of the ABL Partnership Group. We are pleased to welcome two new resident members to the group – Sylvie Dutson and Rebecca Manship, whose nominations were both accepted during the meeting.
The event concluded with networking and food, and visitors were given a preview of a Local Trust video, part of which was filmed in Allenton during the summer of 2016.
We’d like to express our thanks to everyone who supported this event, including delivery partners, representatives from local groups and organisations, and residents who took time out on a cold evening to attend.
