On 1st August, members of the Allenton Big Local partnership group attended the UpBeat Community Dance summer school performance at Merrill Academy. It was great to see such energy, creativity and enthusiasm from the young dancers. There were some great performances!
Allenton Big Local funding enabled 48 young people from the Allenton Big Local area to attend the summer school. Big Local funding also allowed 12 young people from the project area to see a performance at the Royal Albert Hall. In all, £912 of funding was awarded to Upbeat Community Dance through the Allenton Big Local Community Chest scheme.
The Community Chest is currently open for a new round of funding and applications are welcome from groups and organisations within the Allenton Big Local area. Check the ‘How to Apply’ page on our website for further details. The deadline for receiving applications for the current round of funding is 30 September 2014.
Allenton Big Local is now accepting applications for the next round of community chest funding.
The community chest provides small grants of up to £1,000 to support the work of groups based in the Allenton Big Local area. The focus of any application must link to one of the project’s three priorities, which are: strengthening the community; improving life skills; and creating opportunities for training and employment.
Groups benefiting from the last round of community chest funding included Merrill PTFA, which received £1,175 towards a residential trip for 20 disadvantaged students, and UpBeat Community Dance which received support to help young dancers from the Allenton Big Local area to attend a summer school and visit a performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Allenton United Football Club was also awarded £1,500 to buy new kit, equipment, training and coaching.
Groups in the Allenton Big Local area have until 30th September to submit their application for the current round of funding. For more information about the community chest, or to download an application check out the apply for funding page here on the website.
Local organisations will soon be benefiting from funding from the Allenton Big Local Community Chest.
Successful applicants include Merrill PTFA, who will receive £1,175 towards a residential trip for 20 disadvantaged students who live in the Allenton Big Local area.
Allenton United Football Club will also receive £1,500 of Community Chest funding to buy new kit, equipment, training and coaching. Their new kit will feature the Allenton Big Local logo, and the team has agreed to provide weekly match reports to keep the ABL project informed of how they are doing.
An application from UpBeat Community Dance was also successful. The Community Chest will fund Summer School places for young dancers from the Allenton Big Local area, as well as a visit to a performance at the Royal Albert Hall.
The Community Chest is a small grants fund available to groups based in the Allenton Big Local area. Groups can apply for funding to use in a variety of ways, but applications must focus on bringing about a direct benefit to the Big Local area and objectives, and link to one of the Allenton Big Local priorities:
- strengthening the community
- improving life skills
- creating opportunities for training and employment
There will be further opportunities later this year for local organisations to apply for help from the Community Chest. When the next round of funding is released, we’ll announce it here on the ABL website, and on Facebook and Twitter @allentonmillion.
