The last quarter of the year is traditionally very busy for the team at Nacro, particularly in the run up to Christmas, which can be a very stressful time for families. It can be an especially difficult time for families with children where the parents have separated.

In their latest update on Allenton Big Local funded activities, the Nacro Osmaston Family Project reports that this quarter has seen another significant increase in families with complex needs and children who are subject to safeguarding plans. In the last quarter, there have also been two referrals to Social Care for safeguarding.

Nacro offers support on a weekly basis to the families who need it – both in the family home and through telephone calls or text messages of support in between visits.

SpaghettiFamilies in Allenton are continuing to benefit from cookery courses aimed at providing practical advice on healthy eating, basic cooking skills and budgeting information.

The courses are funded by Allenton Big Local and delivered by Nacro Osmaston, working in partnership with the local children’s centre. The 8-week course includes both theoretical lessons and practical hands-on sessions where participants make dishes to take home to their family, using ingredients provided as part of the course.

As part of our Life Skills priority, Allenton Big Local funds family support for parents living in the Allenton Big Local area. The support programmes are delivered by Nacro and aim to enhance and improve family relationships, encourage parents and children to spend time together and take part in activities that positively influence their relationships and have a long term benefit.

1463161To help meet Priority 2 of the Allenton Big Local Plan (Improving Life Skills), we fund activities for families and children which are delivered by the Nacro Osmaston Family Project. Nacro provides activities and support to help local families become better equipped with the skills they need to look after and encourage their children and give them the best start possible.

The support focuses on families and children, aged 0 to 7 years who are identified or referred through links with local agencies, schools and health and social teams. Parents may also self refer.
