If you’ve been anywhere near Flint Street in Allenton recently you can’t fail to have noticed the work taking place at St Martin’s Church and Community Centre. The huge #allentonbigbuild project is now well underway, run by Hodgkinson’s Builders and Derby Homes, in partnership with St Martin’s Church, Derby City Council and Allenton Big Local.
Our last monthly Allenton Big Local partnership meeting was held at St Martin’s Community Centre so that we could see for ourselves how the work is progressing. As we toured the building, it was great to see what had been achieved so far, exciting to hear what is planned, and heart-warming to learn about the amazing people and companies who have donated their time, materials and services to make the project happen.
Apprentices from the National Construction Academy are also involved in the project, giving the young apprentices a chance to contribute to the community whilst gaining useful, hands-on learning experiences from the project.
St Martin’s Community Centre is set to be a valuable asset for Allenton residents and we will continue to watch with interest as the work progresses. If you would like to find out more about the project and read about some of the company’s involved in making #allentonbigbuild possible, visit and like the St Martin’s Church and Community Centre Charity Makeover Facebook page at facebook.com/AllentonBigBuild. The page features regular updates on progress, plus lots of photographs of the work being done.
