New Multi-Use-Games-Area (MUGA)
Before the Enthusiasm Muga (Mutli use games area) at Cotton Lane was revamped if was not fit for purpose. There were doors missing, sides broken and wires from the side was sticking out.
The young people never used the Muga because of how run down it looked. It was frustrating because it had so much potential.
After carrying out a risk assessment, the Muga was deemed unsafe to use. A lot of our Enthusiasm youth club attendees missed their outdoor activities and were frustrated at not being able to take part in activities they enjoyed.
Even though we didn’t have space to do activities we did try our best at doing indoor sports activities.
So when the Muga was deemed unsafe and the young people were upset about it. A lot of young people stopped attending Enthusiasm.
Before the pandemic and with funding from ABL, Enthusiasm Youth Club worked in partnership with the Derby County Community Trust to begin to rectify this.
A new Cotton Lane MUGA was built and when the new risk assessment deemed it safe Enthusiasm Youth Club attendees were able to start using it. Even with the pandemic, this new Muga has ensured that Cotton Lane Youth Club members, under Government guidelines, can safely engage in physical activity.
